Program Origins

When I started Ars Longa Art Cards, I wanted to package my work in emulation of my favorite childhood ritual: the experience of opening a pack of baseball cards. My goal was to recreate that youthful sense of mystery and excitement we felt as kids when ripping packs – an every-day-after-school birthday-present-type-moment filled with anticipation and possibility.

After briefly experimenting and badly failing with wax paper and other materials in an attempt to create my own vintage wax packs, I decided to use soft sleeves and top loaders to protect the cards, but to hide them nonetheless behind a “wrapper” – a dedicated artwork representing the series to which the card belongs on the front, with a “thank you” note on the back. Thus, the Ars Longa Thank You Card was born.

To my delight, this nod to nostalgia was very well received from the beginning, helping to establish the Ars Longa Art Cards identity and brand. However, the practice quickly revealed itself to be resource intensive and I learned that producing a disposable artwork for every card shipped was unsustainable and wasteful.

I thought, If only I could get those Thank You cards back . . . And so the Thank You Cards became Coupons and the Redemption Program was created.

I now reuse the Thank You Coupons you redeem, which is not only better for the environment, but saves a ton of time and resources and keeps costs down.

Thank you for your participation in the Redemption Program!

Program Guidelines

Participation in the program is simple and consistent with hobby traditions:

  • Buy Ars Longa Art Cards.
  • Receive & save your Thank You Coupons.
  • Collect any 8 Thank You Coupons and redeem by mailing them to the address provided above.
  • Once received, I will send you a FREE Ars Longa Art Card from the current Redemption Series.
  • Cards from the Redemption Series are not for sale. I will never sell them. Redemption Cards are created exclusively for this mail-in offer.
  • I will not post images of the Redemption Cards online until the series is retired so that I might preserve the element of surprise when you receive one.
  • There is no limit to the number of cards you can earn through this offer.
  • I track the Redemption Cards you earn and receive as to avoid sending you a duplicate.
  • Each Redemption Series will consist of a small, uniquely themed set.
  • Each Redemption Series will be available for approximately two years before it is retired in favor of a new series.
  • ALL Thank You Coupons are accepted towards this offer. Thank You Coupons never expire.

  • From 2013-2017, a complete checklist for each series was printed on the back of every card. When you received your first card, the theme and scope of the series became clear. This system of communicating the series’ checklist may not always be possible.

Program Participation

2013-2015 Redemption Program Participation

  • Running nearly three years, the 2013-2015 Redemption Program featuring the 1888 Champion New York Giants was very popular and helped put Ars Longa on the map.
  • More than 1,600 Thank You Coupons were redeemed.
  • At least three collectors completed the 20-card series.
  • Participants earned more than 160 FREE Ars Longa Art Cards.

2016-2017 Redemption Program Participation:

  • The two-year long 2016-2017 Redemption Program featuring the most instrumental subjects involved with the 1919 Black Sox Scandal was a huge success.
  • More than 1,200 Thank You Coupons were redeemed.
  • At least five collectors completed the 17-card series.
  • Participants earned more than 150 FREE Ars Longa Art Cards.

2018-2019 Redemption Program Participation:

  • The 2018-2019 Redemption Series will not be revealed on this website until December, 2019.
  • Redeem your Thank You Coupons in multiples of 8 early & often. Since the Redemption Program is a rewards-based recycling program, the more often you redeem, the better the program works.
  • I anticipate making 18 cards for the 2018-2019 series. I invite you to collect them all!
